A well preserved and maintained castle – Reviewed 24 August 2012

When many castles lie in ruins, it is a pleasant surprise to find this one well-maintained and cared for.
Visitors can cross the drawbridge, climb the round guard tower, se lifesize models of people as they would have dressed, walk along the shooting gallery to the guard tower and see the top of the portcutlass still in good order. A residence has been built within the castle walls for writers attending courses in various forms of writing. The chapel is usable for weddings etc. Some rooms have ceilings and are therefore weatherproof and have detail preserved.
Early examples of latrines occur in several places plus kitchen fireplaces.
The shop is well stocked and also serves tea, coffee, cream teas and light snacks. Visited August 2012.
