St Mary’s was built in 1873 of local stone. The heritage-listed building was designed by English architect Richard Suter. Suter finished his training in Cambridge in 1950 and was one of Brisbane’s leading architects. He also designed Jimbour House, St Mark’s Anglican Church in Warwick (1867-1870), St James Anglican Church Toowoomba (1868-69) and St Augustines at Leyburn (1871). He was the main architect of Queensland schools until 1875.
The pipe organ is Queensland’s oldest pipe organ and is older than St Mary’s. It was built by H C Lincoln, organ builder to the King, London, in 1823. The organ is in regular use. Visited October 2015.
